"...compassion involves not just the heart but the hands."
-Barbara Kingsolver in Small Wonder (2002)

Overview
Each year up to twenty high school students from the Midwest are selected through a nominations and application process to be part of a community of "youTheologians." The group commits to gathering for an orientation retreat plus three additional weekend sessions during the school year at Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Missouri and in a rural setting for intensive learning, service, and theological reflection.

Between weekend sessions, participants interact in person with their local mentors and on-line with other participants and program staff to reflect on their experience at the previous weekend session and prepare for the next one.

The yearlong process culminates with a ten-day national Pan-Methodist pilgrimage to the East Coast to explore and experience historic locations from the beginnings of Methodism in America.

With guidance from their local mentor, fellow participants, seminary faculty, and program staff, youth do a project to share with their local congregation what they have experienced and learned during the year.

In order to be selected for the youTheology program, youth must commit to attending all sessions and to meeting with a local mentor [who is not their parent] throughout the program.
